Our day will begin with a sightseeing tour of Tbilisi, the vibrant and hospitable capital of Georgia. We will start our excursion in the Metekhi district, namely the Metekhi temple (XII century), standing at the edge of the rocky bank of the Kura River, which used to be a fortress and residence of the Georgian kings.

Then we will go to Rike Park, located in the center of Tbilisi, which is popular with locals and tourists. It stands out among other parks because it has the shape of a map of Georgia. From the park over the Peace Bridge, which is one of the most recognizable landmarks of Tbilisi and is listed as one of the 30 most amazing bridges in the world, we will walk to the right bank of the.

During the walk we will see the most famous landmarks of the city, such as the Sioni Cathedral – the historical temple of Tbilisi, which was named after the biblical Mount Zion, the clock tower of the famous puppet theater by Rezo Gabriadze, we will walk along the fortress wall, which is preserved since the royal Georgian times, go to Freedom Square and along Shota Rustaveli Avenue we will reach the building of the Parliament and the Opera House

Then we will walk through the small streets of the old town with colorful houses and balconies in the Georgian style, “Italian courtyards” and luxurious entrances, decorated with marble and frescoes. We’ll climb to the observation deck with a beautiful view of the city and then go to the Sulphur Baths and the waterfall, which is located in the heart of the city.

After lunch we will go to Mtskheta – the oldest capital of Georgia. In a small town unique architectural monuments are concentrated – it is a real museum city. The streets of Mtskheta are made in the same style with the predominance of wood and natural stone. Of course, here you will find a lot of stores, souvenir shops, cafes and bars.

Church Jvari, a real architectural masterpiece of the early medieval period with a view of the confluence of the Aragvi and Kura rivers from the top of the hill.

Svetitskhoveli was built in the 11th century, although it is even older, dating back to the beginning of the 4th century and is surrounded by a number of legends associated primarily with early Christian traditions. Svetitskhoveli, known as the burial place of the mantle of Christ, has long been the main Georgian church and remains one of the most revered places of worship to this day. The church is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We will also visit the ancient church and monastery complex of Samtavro. On its territory there are historical buildings and unique exhibits that cannot be overlooked.

A short drive northwest will take you to a cave city of the late second and early first millennium BC.

Exploring the stone labyrinths of living and household rooms, you will imagine the life of pagans and their religious rituals. You will learn about Uplistsikeh’s trade with the ancient states of Urartu and Midia, about its prosperity and decline. Here you will see marvelous panoramas of Kura valley.

In the second part of the trip we will visit Stalin’s museum in his hometown of Gori (not far from Uplistsikhe). In the halls of the whole museum pantheon you will see Stalin’s preserved sculptures, his personal belongings and furniture – the tour will be led by the museum guide.

We will also visit the 7th century Sion Ateni Temple in the village of Ateni, slightly south of Gori, on the left bank of the Tana River. It was built a little later than the famous Jvari, at the very beginning of the 7th century, around 630 AD, before the Arab invasion. Inside there are frescoes from the Golden Age, around 1080. In addition to the frescoes a huge number of inscriptions inside and outside have been preserved. In terms of the number of such inscriptions and their historical importance Ateni Sion is unequivocally the leader among all the temples of Georgia.
